Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 29 November 2023

From the Principal I cannot quite believe that this is the last e-news for the year. It seems to have come around at a blistering pace. As we wrap up the 2023 school year, I want to take this opportunity to thank our College community, parents, students, and staff for helping to make 2023 a very successful and positive school year. We have some staff retiring or leaving to pursue other paths at the end of the year after many years of dedicated service. In particular, I want to recognise…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 22 November 2023

From the Principal Last Saturday night saw another milestone for our Year 12 students with the Graduation Dinner which was held at the President’s Room at Kardinia Park. It was a lovely evening and a great way for our Year 12’s, their families and our staff to celebrate the end of exams and the end of 13 years of school. I had a discussion early in the term with one of our Year 12’s just before they finished school and exams started. We talked about all the lasts - last week of school, last…

From the Principal Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to evolve, offering many advantages and opportunities across many industries, including education. Students and staff have been discussing how we can use AI for the benefit of high-quality teaching and learning, while minimising any negative impacts. We are very happy to include our families with the opportunity to listen and ask questions of Leon Furze, an expert in this field, and we are thrilled to have him share his insights with…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 8 November 2023

From the Principal Last week I had the opportunity to visit our team at Kardinia Sum Pun in Chiang Mai. It was the first time I had seen the team face-to-face since 2019. While I have had lots of Zoom meetings with them, there was nothing quite like visiting and getting to see the staff and the campus in-person. I was able to present Khun Jeab with her 15-year service award from the College and then present Khun A and Khun Noot with their 20-years of service awards. They were so excited and…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 1 November 2023

From the Acting Principal The end of the year is very busy. Year 12 students continue with their exams and lower levels are finalising assessment pieces for their courses. Our Senior School sustainability team, EarthCore, are planning to conduct an assessment of how well we are doing with our waste stream. The waste audit will be held on Friday 10 November. This audit will assess how well we are doing with using the four-stream bin system implemented this year. Students and staff are asked to…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 25 October 2023

From the Principal There are a lot of challenging and confronting events happening in the world at the moment. Last week in e-news our Wellbeing Hub published some ideas on how to help our community cope with war. It is well worth reading if you have not already done so - here is the link https://kiconline.kardinia.vic.edu.au/d2l/le/news/12435/127780/view?ou=12435. There are always some great articles and advice at the Wellbeing Hub. To counteract all the negative news, I subscribe to a…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 18 October 2023

From the Principal Last Friday we had a wonderful Graduation ceremony for our Year 12 students. Every student who walked across the stage has had their own individual journey, their own triumphs and challenges and it was an honour to shake their hands and congratulate them on completing a significant milestone in completing high school. The theme for my Graduation speech came from a line in a song by Michael Franti: “Don’t complicate it, keep it simple, just work hard and be nice to people”.…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 11 October 2023

From the Principal Today was quite a momentous occasion in our household as, no doubt, it was for many of our families. It was the last official day of school for our youngest child. Friends have said they expect me to be jumping for joy - hooray we are done. I feel many emotions today. I remember like yesterday taking him to his first day of preschool. He was absolutely fine, and I held it together until I got to the car park and was then a blubbering mess. I am struggling to hold it together…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 4 October 2023

From the Principal What an interesting start we have had to the first week of term - beautiful sun-filled days, followed by a shift back to winter today. Our Year 6 students are currently out on camp and have not had the best of the weather, but I hear that they are in good spirits. Our Year 12s are gearing up for the final run in to the exams and also seem to be in good spirits. I always love Term 4, with lots of great events on, much to celebrate, with usually warmer weather and the festive…
