LOA33: Bienvenue en France!
This unit provides an introduction to the French language and the French speaking world. Students learn greetings, numbers to 30, and days of the week. They learn to say where they live and talk about their pets. Students become aware of the differences in pronunciation between English and French.
LOA44: A table en famille
This unit continues the students’ introduction to aspects of French life and language. Students learn to talk about their family. They also learn about breakfast food in France. Furthermore, they learn to count to 70, use days of the week, months and the French alphabet.
LOB33: Ma maison et mon école – Standard
Students will extend their communication skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will learn to describe their house and bedroom in French. They will also learn about school subjects and the French school system.
LOB36: En classe et à la maison – Accelerated
This Unit is the first in a series of accelerated Units in French. Students wishing to enrol in this Unit must receive an offer during Unit Selection process and they would have already demonstrated excellent achievement in Level A French studies. Students focus on the same language skills as the standard class and through the same topics – house and school. Throughout this unit, they study at a faster pace and hence cover more vocabulary and grammar. Wider aspects of French culture are introduced in relation to the theme being studied therefore, students continue to enrich their understanding of French culture and society.
LOB43: On parle de nos loisirs – Standard
Students continue to improve their skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing in French. They develop their knowledge of vocabulary and language structures as well as their cultural appreciation through a study of life in France. Topics covered include leisure activities and directions and locations in town.
LOB46: Allons en ville – Accelerated
This unit is the second in a series of accelerated Units in French. Students wishing to do this Unit must have completed LOB36 in a satisfactory manner, or have received a recommendation by their French classroom teacher to move into the accelerated stream. Students focus on the same language skills through the same topics as those covered in the standard Unit. Throughout this Unit however, they study at a faster pace and therefore cover more vocabulary and grammatical aspects of the French language.
LOC32: On y Va
This unit aims to further students’ knowledge of the French language and francophone cultures. The topics studied include talking about holidays, making comparisons and saying what you have done in the past. New grammatical structures and tenses are studied. Students participate in various oral and written communicative tasks throughout the semester. Pre-requisite: successful completion of LOB43 or LOB46
LOC37: Bonnes vacances
This accelerated unit focuses on further developing students’ language skills while extending their vocabulary and range of grammatical structures and awareness of the French culture. New vocabulary and grammatical structures are introduced. The themes studied include talking about holidays, making comparisons and saying what you have done in the past . Pre-requisite: successful completion of LOB46.
LOC41: Vous payez comment
In this unit, students develop their comprehension skills as well as their confidence in speaking and writing in French through the study of different topics, such as asking for and giving advice, ordering and paying for food and talking about transport options. They improve their pronunciation and intonation and expand their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar. More complex grammatical structures and varied vocabulary are introduced. Students develop greater fluency in written and conversational French. Pre-requisite: successful completion of LOC32 or LOC37 or equivalent.
LOC47: A ta santé
This accelerated unit focuses on students’ acquisition of a broader vocabulary and mastery of more complex grammatical structures and tenses. The themes studied include: asking for and giving advice, ordering and paying for food and talking about transport options. Pre- requisite: successful completion of LOC37
LOD31: Découvrez Paris
In this unit students continue to develop their language skills prior to entering the VCE or IB programs. Students acquire more varied vocabulary and study new grammatical structures and tenses. The new topics studied include discussing what activities you want to do, describing yourself and friends and talking about how you get on with others. Relevant oral and written communicative tasks are assessed throughout the semester. Pre-requisite: the successful completion of LOC42 or LOC47.
LOD42: Vivre écolo
In this unit students continue to develop their language skills prior to entering the VCE or IB programs. Students acquire more varied vocabulary and study new grammatical structures and tenses. The new topics studied include discussing environmental issues, talking about chores and routines, and discussing education and career choices. Relevant oral and written communicative tasks are assessed throughout the semester. Pre-requisite: the successful completion of LOD32 or LOE32.
LOE32: Mes meilleurs copains
In this unit students continue to develop their language skills prior to entering the VCE or IB programs. Students acquire more varied vocabulary and study new grammatical structures and tenses. The new topics studied include discussing what activities you used to do, talking about past events, describing yourself and friends and talking about how you get on with others. Relevant oral and written communicative tasks are assessed throughout the semester. Pre-requisite: the successful completion of LOC42 or LOC47.
LOE42: Projets d’avenir
In this unit students continue to develop their language skills prior to entering the VCE or IB programs. Students acquire more varied vocabulary and study new grammatical structures and tenses. The new topics studied include discussing environmental issues, talking about chores and routines, and discussing education and career choices. Relevant oral and written communicative tasks are assessed throughout the semester. Pre-requisite: the successful completion of LOD32 or LOE32.
