English as an Additional Language

Courses are offered to students for whom English is an additional language. On arrival students will discuss language requirements with key College staff and a program will be customised to meet their needs.

EAL11: Global Tales

This is an introductory unit which will build students’ confidence in the English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. In this unit students will develop their grasp of elementary level grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through learning activities such as reading, exploring and crafting texts, comprehending audio and/or visual texts, and a variety of oral communication task

EAL13: New Beginnings

This unit aims to further reinforce students’ confidence in the English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. In this unit students will develop their grasp of elementary level grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through learning activities such as reading, exploring and crafting texts, comprehending audio and/or visual texts, and a variety of oral communication tasks.

EAL12: Around the World

In this unit students will continue building their confidence in the English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will consolidate their grasp of elementary level grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through learning activities such as reading, exploring and crafting texts, comprehending audio and/or visual texts, and a variety of oral communication tasks.

EAL14: Building Blocks

In this unit students will continue building their confidence in the English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will consolidate their grasp of elementary level grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through learning activities such as reading, exploring and crafting texts, comprehending audio and/or visual texts, and a variety of oral communication tasks.

In this unit students will strengthen their English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will develop their grasp of intermediate level grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through learning activities such as reading, exploring and crafting texts, comprehending audio and/or visual texts, and a variety of oral communication tasks.

EAL23: Building Worlds

In this unit students will further strengthen their English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will develop their grasp of intermediate level grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through learning activities such as reading, exploring and crafting texts, comprehending audio and/or visual texts, and a variety of oral communication tasks.

EAL22: New Discoveries

In this unit students will continue developing their English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will consolidate their grasp of intermediate level grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through learning activities such as reading, exploring and crafting texts, comprehending audio and/or visual texts, and a variety of oral communication tasks.

EAL24: New Challenges

In this unit students will continue developing the English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will consolidate their grasp of intermediate level grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through learning activities such as reading, exploring and crafting texts, comprehending audio and/or visual texts, and a variety of oral communication tasks.

This unit prepares students for VCE success in EAL English. Students will consolidate their English language skills of speaking, listening, reading/viewing and writing. Areas of study include: reading and exploring texts, crafting texts, exploring argument, comprehending audio visual texts, and a formal persuasive oral presentation.

EAL34: Power and Persuasion

This unit continues to prepare students for VCE success in EAL English. Students will strengthen their English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Areas of study include: reading and exploring texts, crafting texts, exploring argument, comprehending audio visual texts, and a variety of oral communication tasks.
