Kardinia eNews – Wednesday 23 November 2022

Home Kardinia eNews – Wednesday 23 November 2022

From the Principal

Last week we farewelled our graduating class of 2022.

It is always bittersweet to say goodbye to Year 12 students. It is sad knowing we will not see them at school every day, but also exciting thinking about where their journey will take them as they leave us and head out into the world.

We were very privileged to have Associate Professor Deborah Friedman as guest speaker at our Graduation Ceremony. Professor Friedman shared some of her journey with our students. Her story was, no doubt, an inspiration for anyone who has a dream and dares to pursue it, even when others try to plant seeds of doubt or obstacles in their way. Whatever path our Year 12’s choose to take post-school, be it straightforward or circuitous, I wish them all the very best and hope that they can create many happy memories along the way.

I also want to take this opportunity to wish all our Year 10 students heading off on camp next week all the best on their adventures. I hope that they have a wonderful time exploring the Victorian High Country, spending time with old friends, making new ones and also taking some time for rest and reflection away from the busyness of the day to day.

Year 10 and 11 Careers Transition sessions- Thursday 24 November 2022

On Thursday 24 November our current Year 10 and 11 students will engage in transition sessions provided by Tyson Day from the from the Social Enterprise Group, Arrive and Thrive.

Tyson is a well-known blogger and podcaster and he works with various secondary schools across Victoria. The mission of his organisation is to enable every individual to design and develop a meaningful career and live a fulfilling life. These programs adopt a Human Centred Design approach, with the aim of increasing employment rates and work engagement through the development of career management, self-development skills and enhanced mindsets.

Students in Year 10 will participate in the ‘Career Design and Values’ workshop during periods 1 and 2, and our Year 11 students will participate in the ‘Goal Setting and Habits’ workshop during periods 3 and 4.

It is our hope that through their active participation in these sessions, students will have the tools and mindset to actively engage in their senior studies and make meaningful choices about their future pathway going forward.

Alumni News

MORONGO OLD COLLEGIANS

Morongo Old Collegians were warmly invited to a special Christmas High Tea and Tour of the grounds on Sunday 20 November. For some, it was their first time back since they had left school and they were keen to see their classrooms and facilities again through adult eyes, recalling the vivid memories of their childhood years. The meandering tours, hosted by staff and Year 11 Prefects Elect, facilitated plenty of stories, smiles and laughter.

In Morongo House, a memorable High Tea was served. The front reception rooms were decorated in a heritage Christmas theme, and Morongo memorabilia along the corridor and at the foot of the staircase, prompted many fond memories.

Instrumental Music Lessons for 2023

Has your child always wanted to learn a musical instrument? Now is their chance to enrol in instrumental music lessons for 2023. They will have lessons with a professional specialist musician. Lessons are usually 30 minutes in length and rotate throughout the school day.

If your child is already learning an instrument, they will need to submit a re-enrolment form to secure a place with their teacher for next year.

Come and get involved in the bands and ensembles offered in the Music Department program. It is so much fun! Please complete the enrolment form and email to music@kardinia.vic.edu.au

Priority enrolments close on Monday 28 November. The Senior Enrolment Form can be accessed here.

All hired instruments must be returned for stocktake by Friday 2 December. If a re-enrolment form for 2023 has been received, your child will be able to take your instrument home for the holidays once it has been checked.

School TV

Bullying comes in many forms. It has far-reaching damaging impacts on a child’s self-esteem, self-worth, resilience and academic success which can carry right through to their adult life. Bullying is a repeated and targeted behaviour and it also relates to how it makes a young person feel as a result of such behaviour. As parent, it is important to understand what is happening before concluding that it is bullying. Online bullying can have a much greater impact and be far more difficult to deal with. Online bullies can engage in inappropriate behaviours 24/7 and invade a young person’s home environment where they should feel safe.
