Kardinia eNews – Wednesday 16 March 2022

Home Kardinia eNews – Wednesday 16 March 2022

From the Principal

Next Thursday we will be hosting a very exciting event at the College to celebrate the launch of our new Strategic Plan 2022 – 2032. Our Strategic Plan looks to further develop what is already a very special school. Our continued emphasis will be on remaining true to our Guiding Statements and maintaining our reputation as a school of choice for families in the Greater Geelong Region. These statements have recently been enhanced to reflect our aspirations and, in addition, we have defined how we hope to see each of our cornerstones reflected in our students, staff and graduates.

Our Motto: Wisdom leads to Respect and Friendship.

Our Vision: To be a symbol of hope for the world. Developing knowledgeable and compassionate globally minded citizens who act as agents of positive and sustainable change.

Our Mission: To empower our students through an engaging, challenging and student-centred education. To develop in our students social, personal, intercultural, critical thinking and ethical (SPICE) skills and attributes that enable and inspire then to actively contribute to a more inclusive, respectful, peaceful, and sustainable world.

Four Cornerstones: Living the Motto, International Mindedness, Individuals as Lifelong Learners, and Technological Advancement and Innovation.

I am very proud of our Strategic Plan 2022 – 2032, as it represents a collaboration of all members of the College and couldn’t have been developed without the invaluable input from our staff, students, parents and wider community.

For this reason, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to an evening of networking and celebration as we launch the College’s Strategic Plan 2022 – 2032. Please see the below invitation for further details and to register your attendance via this link: https://events.humanitix.com/kic

From the Head of Junior School

New Lower Primary Building
Our Foundation Year teachers were lucky enough to visit the site of the new Lower Primary building a few weeks ago. Plan Group have captured the experience on film and as you can see, our FY team are excited!

Parent Teacher Interviews
Bookings for the Parent Teacher Interviews on Friday 1 April are still open. If you haven’t had a chance to make a booking yet, please log in to KIC Online Student Information and do so before 29 March. Please be reminded that Friday 1 April is a student free day while the interviews are conducted. All K-12 students also have an early dismissal on Tuesday 5 April. Students in Kindergarten will be dismissed at 12.45pm and students from FY-Y12 at 12.50pm. Buses will run as normal but will depart at 1.00pm and 1.05pm.

A Message from the Planeteers – Plastic Bread Tag and Bag Collection
The Planeteers Student Committee are collecting plastic bread tags and plastic bread bags. This may seem weird, but we will be sending the bread tags to an Aussie company that uses bread tags to make things like bowls. Money from selling the bowls will go to purchasing wheelchairs for the disabled. The plastic bags will be collected and recycled. There is a jar in the JS office for your bread tags and boxes for the bread bags are coming. This is our first action for the year, and we look forward to your support. Stay green – The Planeteers.

Parent Teacher Interviews for Semester 1

Parent Teacher Interviews for all Senior School students will be held on the following dates:

  • Thursday, 31 March 2022 from 3:40pm
  • Friday, 1 April 2022 from 9:00am
  • Tuesday, 5 April 2022 from 1:40pm

Interviews will take place online via Microsoft Teams.

We kindly ask you to note the following points, which are in place to make the experience as efficient and user friendly as possible:

  • Interviews will be restricted to a maximum of eight minutes in duration.
  • While interviews are available to all parents, they are not compulsory for those families not needing to contact teachers at this point in time.
  • When you login to book an interview, teachers will indicate whether an “interview is welcomed” or an “interview is required”. We also encourage parents to review their child’s Progressive Report prior to booking interviews. This will allow parents to assess whether an interview is necessary.
  • You will only see timeslots that are available at the time you are using the system. As timeslots are booked for teachers, they will no longer be displayed as available. The booking system prevents double-booking of teachers and/or parents and guardians.
  • Separated families entitled to interviews will both have access to the booking system and are able to book interview times.
  • In some instances, teachers work with more students than there are available interview timeslots. If you are unable to schedule an interview, please complete this form and we will make alternative arrangements for you to speak to the relevant teacher.
  • If you do not have internet access, please contact the College on (03) 5278 9999 for assistance in booking interviews.
  • Bookings open on Monday, 21 March 2022 at 9:00am and will close on Thursday, 24 March 2022 at 5:00pm. After this time, no further bookings can be made.

We have enclosed instructions that will guide you through the interview booking process below. Also included is a guide to accessing the online interviews once you receive the email with MS Teams links. If you do encounter difficulties, please feel free to contact the College on (03) 5278 9999 for assistance.

Course Selection for Semester 2

Course Selection for Semester 2, 2022 starts tomorrow in an Extended Tutor Group. During this session, students will be taken through information and considerations designed to help guide their decision-making for next semester. Parents can access the same information through this link: https://bridges.kardinia.vic.edu.au/index.php/2022-semester-2-course-selection/

For parents, this is the time to start a conversation with your child about subjects they wish to select. In the upcoming Parent Teacher Interviews, students and parents will have the chance to continue the conversation about Semester 2 options together. Course selections will close on Wednesday, 6 April 2022 at 11:00am, directly after PTIs have concluded.

For parents that missed the Future Directions Information evening, held early in March, you can access the slides and Future Directions Bridges Publication via the Bridges website: https://bridges.kardinia.vic.edu.au.

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence

Join us on Friday 18 March 2022 for the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative celebrates 12 years of action, connecting schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying. The theme for 2022 is Kindness Culture. By building Kindness Culture together, we can promote inclusion, respect and community belonging for all students in schools across Australia.

School TV – Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is a form of bullying using technology such as the Internet or mobile phone. It can be shared widely and quickly with a lot of people, making this form of bullying extremely dangerous and harmful. It has become increasingly common, especially among teenagers. Cyberbullying can be identified as being repeated behaviour by an aggressor with an intent to harm or embarrass someone. This type of behaviour can include posting rumours about a person, posting direct threats or sexual remarks, even disclosing a victim’s personal information. Internet trolling is another common form of cyberbullying often found in online gaming or social media circles. Internet trolls often do this to elicit a reaction or disruption from their victim purely for their own personal amusement.

Website Design and Development

Graphic design and sourcing professional help can make the difference when putting together outward facing materials. While there are many programs and web apps that can make things “appear professional” paying someone who knows industry software will make it allot of difference and give you peace of mind when promoting your brand.
