KIC Swim School

The KIC Swim School program has been developed by a team with over 35 years industry experience. Our program follows a similar principle to the Kardinia International College Senior School’s Vertical Curriculum, whereby a student will be able to accelerate their learning in areas where they are strong.

Each level includes compulsory and elective skills. In every level there are six (6) compulsory skills, which must be performed to progress to the next level. In addition, there are six (6) elective skills. A student needs to demonstrate at least three (3) of the elective skills to progress to the next level. Elective skills are vital swimming skills however, the competency of these will not hinder a child’s progression to the next level. Our teachers and supervisors will continue to work with the student to develop these skills.

KIC Swim School Lesson Progression

Water Familiarisation

Parent and Me 1 – 2, Transition
30min classes

Classes for 6 months to 2.5 years of age, with parent assistance. Students will be introduced to the water in a safe and supportive environment, with both parent and child learning how to be safe around the water.

Levels 1 – 3
30min Lesson

During these early levels, we introduce students to the water. Students will develop the skills to aid them being safe around water and provide the foundations of stroke development. By the end of these stages, students will be confident in and around the water.

Stroke Introduction

Levels 4 – 7
30min Lesson leading to 45min lesson at Level 5

In these levels, we start to introduce recognised swimming strokes and correct technique. By the completion of these levels, students will have covered Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Survival Backstroke in full. Butterfly skills will also be introduced however, the full stroke is not developed.

Stroke Development

Levels 8 – 9
45min Lesson leading to 60min lesson at Level 9

We are now refining the techniques of Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Survival Backstroke. Full Butterfly stroke is taught and refined.

Technical / Pre-Squad

Level 10
60min Lesson

Students now move into the more technical stage of swimming. We work with them to enhance their technique of the four (4) main competitive strokes and increase their endurance. Correct start and turn technique are introduced and refined to develop the skills required for competitive swimming. This level allows students the opportunity to improve endurance, speed and technique in a non-pressured environment.

KIC Swim Squad

KIC Swim Squads are up and running in 2020. We will have three Squad Programs available, and will be running a number of come and try race nights for anyone interested.

We will be applying to Swimming Victoria to be registered from July 2020 as a competitive swimming club.

Lap Swim Club

Unsupervised fitness swimming. Registered participants will have access to a variety of programs to improve their fitness, varying from 1km – 3km, running from an hour to 1.5 hours in length. Participants can come in and use lap lanes whenever they please and track their laps working towards achievement goals.

Introductory (Intro) Squad

First Supervised Squad Level. Must be in KIC Swim School’s Level 8 to join. Participants must do one swimming lesson and one Intro Squad session per week. This way students will get a technique focused session and a race skill / endurance session each week and will improve more quickly. Sessions are 1 hour in length.

Development Squad

Must be able to do all 4 strokes competently and maintain certain times. Will be invited to join from Intro Squad or by an assessment by a Squad coach only. Sessions are 1.5 hours in length, and swimmers must do at least 2 sessions per week.
