Congratulations to Kardinia International College‘s Junior Boy’s Soccer Team winning the State Championships!
The team competed at the School Sports Victoria Primary Boys State Soccer Finals at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex in Cheltenham. The boys have won the District, Division and Regional Soccer events to make it this far to be one of eight schools in the State vying for the title.
The boys won all three games in their pool to make the final against Amsleigh Park Primary School. In the final, the boys were able to showcase their many talents with a tight defensive structure, dynamic and enduring midfield, as well as their skilled forward. At the end of full time, the two teams were locked in a 1-1 draw. Overtime was called to get a result. At the conclusion of overtime, Both teams were locked in a 2-2 draw.
As a result, a penalty Shootout decided the 2017 Champions. Kardinia International College kicked truly and the opposition missed one, and Luka Volarevic (our goalie) saved one to take out the penalty shootout 4-2, crowning Kardinia International College, ‘State Champions’. This is an amazing achievement, considering that over 1100 Primary Schools across the State entered soccer teams at the beginning of the Inter-School Sports Season. Thanks to Mr Russell and Mr Bertino and everyone involved – well done boys.
The boys were also featured in the Geelong Advertiser Tuesday 12 September 2017.
