Geelong is Victoria’s second largest city and port. It is located on the shores of Corio Bay and offers a host of leisure activities such as surf beaches, golf courses, sporting clubs, theatres and yacht clubs.

Geelong is a friendly city where young people can go to school and University in complete safety. It therefore has huge advantages over cities such as Melbourne and Sydney.

Kardinia International College - In brief

Kardinia International College has education for both boys and girls from 3 years old to 18 years old. It offers high quality education to students from all parts of the world. We prepare our students for entry to University. Our success rate for entry to University each year has been generally 100%. Over 30% of our students have succeeded in reaching the top 10% of student results in Victoria. Although the College is fairly new, (it began in 1996) it is situated on the site, which already contained many excellent facilities where Morongo Girls College existed for 70 years. The College's motto is 'Wisdom Leads to Respect and Friendship'. We encourage friendship between many varied nationalities and respect for different customs, cultures and religions. The school day begins at 9.00am and finishes at 3.20pm, Monday to Friday. Our students wear a school uniform to school.

Homestay

Kardinia International College has a homestay program where the international students live with a local family. There is a strong College support system between the student, family and College. This support involves:

  • An orientation program for homestay students.
  • Regular meetings with the homestay coordinator who communicates regularly with homestay families and the student's parents overseas.
  • Cultural outings and holiday programs for overseas students.
The homestay coordinator is Ms. Jenifer Tippet. She has had extensive experience with overseas students in boarding schools and homestay programs.

English as a Second Language

This Department caters for overseas students who wish to study in Australia, whether for short courses or long term VCE studies in preparation for University. Students are assessed as to their needs and programs are designed to suit individuals in speaking, writing, reading and listening to English. Students are prepared for entry into mainstream classes. International students are encouraged to speak English whenever possible. It is appreciated that for students with limited English skills, this can be an exhausting process. We recognise that it is also important for students to have time speaking their own language with newly gained friends from their own country. Most of the time, however, students are obliged to speak English.
